#10 - Wild Card

Image
Evolution of Video: How We Have Video as We Know It   "What should I do for my Wild Card paper?" When I asked my parents this question, I was not expecting the reaction I received. Once I explained the topic had to relate to video, my dad's eyes lit up, and he started explaining how much video had changed since he was a kid. He started shaking his phone around, saying, "kids today just don't understand how amazing this is." My parents began telling me stories about how you had to rewind tapes before returning them to the store and how when my dad filmed things in high school, it required a giant video camera and a lengthy editing process. My mom mentioned how revolutionary streaming services are for us today. This conversation made me realize how much video has genuinely changed. Today would seem like science fiction to a person one hundred years ago. It made me wonder, "what were the significant developments in video over the years?" Throughout th...

#9 - Classmate Blog Critique

Image
Classmate Blog Critiques One of my favorite things to do in my mass media classes is to look at my fellow classmate's blogs. Everyone has a particular style and aesthetic in their blog that genuinely reflects who they are. As I continue on to each class, I always notice the improvement in my own blog and my classmates. This semester, I have truly enjoyed looking at everyone's blogs and seeing the topics they have chosen to discuss. Although I would like to discuss all of my classmate's work, I have chosen several that I have admired throughout the semester. Haylee Hines   From the first class Haylee and I took together, I noticed the professionalism and creativity in her blogging style. She always writes in full detail and writes interactively. I love her use of graphics in every post because it adds more points to the article and gives the reader a clear picture of what she is writing about.  Image Contains Link to Blog I specifically want to talk about Haylee's Prod...

#8 - Predictions

Video Predictions: A More Immersive Experience Watching video change over the last decade has been a surreal experience. When I was seven years old, I never imagined that the cell phone would evolve into what it is today. I was always jealous that my older sister had a flip phone; I never knew that when I got a cell phone of my own, I would be able to watch movies, take high-quality photos, or FaceTime someone, let alone multiple people at a time.  It is impressive to see how fast video has changed in a short amount of time; even then, it is hard to imagine what will come next, but I still have some ideas.  I predict that videos will become more immersive. A few months ago, I came across a TikTok where someone was instructing viewers to put on headphones to listen to the audio. When doing so, it sounds like you were present during a concert.  @jemma.stone if you couldn’t get tickets to harry styles here’s a video to comfort you #harrystyles #foruyou #foru #fyp #fo...

#7 - Binge Watching

Image
Binge Watching: Outer Banks I remember the very first show I binge-watched on a streaming platform. I was in seventh grade, and I begged my parents to buy Netflix so I could watch  Pretty Little Liars.  Since then, Netflix has been at my disposal to watch any show the platform offers.  I usually only have time to binge-watch shows when I am on extended breaks from school. Still, my family now has access to almost every streaming platform, so I can basically watch anything I find interesting. There are multiple shows that I have enjoyed binge-watching, but one show that I have thoroughly enjoyed watching recently is the Netflix original Outer Banks.  Over Christmas break, I watched both seasons of the hit Netflix original  Outer Banks . I remember when the show initially premiered during the pandemic. It pulled everyone into a frenzy due to its popularity; however, though I was surrounded by Outer Banks  content on TikTok and Instagram, I was never te...

#6 - Global Trends

Wordle When asked, "What's trending globally?" my mind went immediately to Wordle . About two months ago, I was scrolling through social media, and I kept seeing these little green and orange squares. I had no idea what I was looking at until I looked at the comments. When I found out it was a game, I went straight to the app store, only to find different games with the same title, but not what I was looking for. This is when I found out that Wordle is only available to play online. My next question was, "why is this game so popular?" I soon found out after playing for a few days.  The most intriguing thing about Wordle is that you can only play one puzzle a day. This attracted me because it reminded me of newspaper crosswords. You are playing the same puzzle as everyone else and can discuss the puzzle with your friends. I cannot tell you how many times I have heard, "have you done the Wordle today?" The gameplay is simple. Players guess five-letter w...

#5 - Surveillance or Law Enforcement

Surveillance Footage  For years, surveillance footage has helped solve millions of murder and crime cases. In a world that revolves around video, surveillance footage has become an excellent source of evidence, mainly when it provides the time and date the video is taking place. Video surveillance offers individuals a source of protection; however, is it at the cost of privacy? There are multiple scenarios that I have come across that truly highlight the pros and cons of surveillance footage being used in our world today. On TikTok, surveillance footage is used periodically by users for comedic content; however, I will come across crime-related content on my For You page. I have always been interested in true crime, so I often come across crime-related surveillance footage on TikTok. One example of this is the Aiden Fucci case.  Aiden Fucci is a fourteen-year-old boy facing first-degree murder charges after allegedly stabbing a cheerleader 114 times. His is mother, Crys...

#4 - Advertising Analysis

Product Placement  Everyone knows that they will see advertisements when they walk into a movie theater. After all, it is one of the most exciting things about going to the movies. I always enjoy discussing what movies I want to see with my family and friends as the advertisements play. Many people will view advertisements as a way to stay entertained before a film starts; however, did you know that the advertisements often continue after the film has begun?  Product Placement has always been a fascinating topic to me. I will constantly point out product placements as I watch films and television. When I see a character drinking a can of Coke on the screen, I immediately know the motive behind it. You may not even realize that product placements have worked on you. For example, while watching television, you may see a group of people obviously eating at a McDonald's. Later, you may turn off the tv and ask yourself, why do I want to go to McDonald's so bad? I am here to t...
