MacBook Air (M1, 2020)
I received my first MacBook Air for Christmas in 2014. The laptop lasted me up to seven years with little problem. I enjoyed my MacBook and was devastated when it began to slow down and work improperly. I knew I needed a new laptop, but I was unsure if I wanted to get another MacBook or try another brand, mainly due to Apple's prices. After doing some research, I found that I could buy a MacBook Air with a student discount, and I also had an Apple gift card that I could use. I got my new MacBook Air (2020) in December, and since then, I have compared my new MacBook to the one that lasted almost a decade.
The most crucial difference in my new MacBook Air is its use of the M1 chip. The M1 chip is designed by Apple and is made specifically for Apple's laptops and computers. According to Apple Newsroom, "Macs and PCs have traditionally used multiple chips for the CPU, I/O, security, and more. Now with M1, these technologies are combined into a single SoC, delivering a whole new level of integration for greater performance and power efficiency."
There are many aspects of the M1 chip that improve the speed and memory of Apple's computers. I have definitely noticed a difference in my new MacBook Air's performance compared to my old one. The Mac is, notably, very fast, thanks to the M1 chip that Apple has created.
My new MacBook also has a feature that I quite enjoy. The Touch ID, which is also available on most iPhones, is one of my favorite aspects of my new MacBook Air. Unless my laptop has just recharged, I do not manually enter my passcode. I can get into my computer by pressing a button, and my laptop still remains locked to others.
Something else that I enjoy about my new MacBook is its unique look. I had the option of choosing from three colors: space gray, gold, and silver. For my preference, I chose the gold color. I like how my laptop looks, and although this is not the most essential aspect, it is a benefit. I thoroughly enjoy my new MacBook Air; however, there are some disadvantages to owning a Mac in general. Of course, Apple products do not provide Microsoft applications, which are better for school and other uses. To have these applications, you must buy and download them to your MacBook. You may use the applications that are available online, but they do not have all of the features available.
Overall, I am delighted with my new MacBook. My old Mac lasted me quite a while, and I hope my new one lasts me just as long or maybe longer. When I ask people whether or not they would like a Mac, I usually get mixed answers. Some do not want them; others say they are too expensive, which is agreeable. For me, I think the price can be worth it. I cannot say I will always use a MacBook, but I can say I am a fan of the product and recommend it.
